PSDP
The TGCC is one of the 12 support components of the European Union http://ec.europa.eu/europeaid and Government of Jamaica funded Private Sector Development Programme (PSDP - http://www.psdpjamaica.com). The PSDP is a five-year technical assistance programme funded jointly by the European Union (EU), under the 9th European Development Fund (EDF), and the Government of Jamaica (GoJ). The PSDP, which was initiated in 2004, has a total budget of €28.67 million for the development of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. While the Programme is scheduled to come to an end December 2009, the TGCC will continue on as a statutory body.
Purpose
The broad objective of the PSDP is to promote and impact, on a sustainable basis, Jamaica 's overall socio-economic development, by strengthening the country's private sector. The targeted support that the PSDP provides to the sector will be crucial in achieving its objective, as the Programme is designed to increase the sector's contribution to GDP – especially the portion that comes from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The PSDP is, therefore, focused on addressing the competitiveness challenges that the MSMEs face and will seek to:
The Jamaica Trade and Invest (JAMPRO) is the core Implementing Agency and has set up a Project Management Unit (PMU) to coordinate the activities of the Programme. JAMPRO'S PMU works closely with two other Co-Implementing agencies – the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) and the Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC).

Purpose

- Improve the macro economic environment by identifying and addressing policy and regulatory-level opportunities and constraints to MSME development;
- Provide firm and sector level assistance to companies in the MSME sector – improving their productivity and competitiveness via grants that are promoted and/or administered by private sector organizations and support institutions (PSOs);
- Strengthen private sector (intermediary) organizations and support institutions (PSOs) with a view to strengthening the ability of those organizations to increase the assistance they provide to MSMEs.
